Fall Fashion Curve: Trends...Sequins, Leopard Print, Military
By Alissa Wilson
A new season means there is time for change. For fashion lovers, that means time for a wardrobe change. As I flip through magazines drooling over the glossy ads that are showcasing the hottest and coolest trends for the new season, my pockets are itching for me to spend money on updating my Fall wardrobe. For this Fall season we are seeing a lot of repeats from last year. Leopard print, military, and sequin trends are all back in a bigger way.
To help get you started on building your Fall wardrobe checkout a few pieces from this seasons hottest trends.
Sequins
Sequins scream evening wear. Nothing is more chic than a sequin blazer thrown over a tank and a pair of skinny jeans for dinner with the girls or a super sexy sequin dress for a special eveing out or if your headed to the club to dance the night away. On the hunt for your own sequin number? Check out the black glimmering sequin dress from David Meister right here at Boutique Larrieux!

Leopard Print
I think it’s about time for us to stop considering this print a trend. It’s as classic as the LBD (of course in moderation). Leopard print adds spice to any look. You can play it safe with a pair of leopard print pumps or you can go all out in a body con leopard print dress.

Military
Attention! Yes, military can be chic and sexy. The military trend is one of my favorites because of the structure and the focus on the details. I love a strong shouldered military jacket and I love the gold military-esque buttons that adorn dresses and shoes.

Fall Fashion Curve: Pants
By Sarah Russell
To continue on with the Fall fashion series here at the Boutique Larrieux Corner, I thought what better item to concentrate on than pants? No, not jeans. Slacks. Structured pants. Which is an oddity for me, considering I rarely wear them. But after seeing some of the fabulous choices available for the Fall, I may be reconsidering my no-pants stance. They are a great way to dress up and outfit and to create a different look from the norm of jeans, and there are some fabulous silhouettes this fall.
First up, faux denim slacks.

Speaking of jeans, this faux denim slacks are the perfect combo! They are a perfect modern silouhette, with wide leg but tailored look and guess what? Where can you find these? Why at Boutique Larrieux, of course!
Next, jersey trousers.

This jersey cuffed trousers from the ASOS curve line are really great. They offer a less adventurous look than the harem pant, but still a modern and clean design. I love these because I think they would be perfect for Fall - and comfortable! Also, the opportunity to dress these up with a pair of heels or boots, or dress them down for a more casual weekend look with some flats mean VERSATILITY!
And finally, cargo pants.

Though I could go on for ages with new pants, I will stop with this interesting pair! The skinny cargo pants are from Z. Cavaricci which is a line from Torrid. I never thought I'd EVER support cargo pants, until I saw these. I love the color of them - perfect shade of Olive for fall, and also their distressed quality. I don't think I'd pair them with the heels shown - maybe a pair of boots or booties instead. I can just see this with an oversized sweater...who knew cargo pants could be stylish again?
I'll be covering more fall trends here, and also on my blog Return to Sender: A FAT Girl's Letters to the World so let me know what you think and what fall trends YOU are interested in!

Fall Fashion Curve: Fall Jackets
By Micaela Shambee
A new season is approaching, and this season happens to be my favorite! I love Fall for three reasons: holidays, cooler weather and fashion. I simply love fall fashion because we get to wear knee high boots, and awesome jackets (that is my uniform for fall, really!) So it's important to pick the right pieces for your fall wardrobe now, so you'll be ready when the temperature starts to drop. Thus, we'll start with picking the right jacket, which can make your outfit chic, cool, or edgy depending on the style. Get ready to get ahead of the Fashion curve ladies! Here are my first three picks:
Leather Jacket
I love leather jackets because they add a bit of edge to your wardrobe instantly! I predict leather jackets to be all the rage this season because fashion is moving in a more hard-edge environment. Like this amazing jacket from Jovani's separates line JVN. Jovani, who has dressed Gabourey Sidibe, Beyonce, and Ciara, has created a leather jacket that will bring that celeb edginess straight into your wardrobe! This jacket has the most awesome rosette details on the shoulders and layers that scream edgy and cool all at the same time! I suggest pairing it with lace tank or a skinny tunic with chunky bracelets or pearls for a look that's edgy and a little bit sweet.
You will be able to find this awesome jacket right here at Boutique Larrieux!

Bomber Jackets
I love Bomber jackets because they give off an urban, polished feel that I love, being a city girl. In addition, this jacket is light and looks best when fitted and cut at the waist on curvy girls. So, if this jacket is the apple of your eye, make sure that you try styling it with chunky bracelets and scarves to instantly glam up your bomber and make it look fresh for Fall! Look for this jacket in tan or even plaid for a nice downtown chic effect.

Asos Curve PU Seemed Bomber
Blazer
Though I don't exactly consider a blazer a jacket, you'll definitely find this topper on everyone this season! Hailing as one of the most fresh looks from last fall (think Kim Kardashian), blazers will be back with a vengeance for 2010. However, if you want to make it current, try a blazer with sharp shoulders or with embellishments like spikes and chains for a very new 2010 feel. Make sure that this type of jacket is fitted, for the most classic and beautiful shape. Also, don't be afraid to find blazers in different colors or even patterns. A fun blazer can instantly update any wardrobe!

Fashion + Architecture = New Heights
By Amanda Hudgins
The lines of a silhouette, the shape of a well structured dress, and the tiny details in an outfit that draws the eye where it wants. These are all part of the architecture of fashion. You may not think that fashion and architecture have anything in common, but you would be surprised how much the design can be similar. Designers sometimes spend a lot of time working on one garment to make sure it fits where it is supposed to and it lays right on the body. Months of preparation from design to concept will help the designer determine if one outfit is going to be a hit or a flop. Not all make it to the cut, but each piece still deserves attention.
The way a garment is sewn can determine if it flows against the curves or away. No one wants to put on a garment and notice the way it was made just does not make since for the design. Just like in architecture, a fashion design can be similar to a blueprint. It can detail what a dress or top should fit like, it can detail how it should look (i.e. details, waistband, pleating, and darts).
The blueprint of a garment is taken from that one drawing and made into a reality with the help of other departments. Also, the details can be similar to architecture as well. Like the layers of a dress can give definition to a beautiful waist. The shape of a skirt can show off the curves you are so proud to have. The lines in a print can dance on your body and entertain the eye. If you look around the fashion world there are plenty of examples of architectural fashion. Like this dress from Igigi

I love how Igigi always incorporates interesting shapes with classic lines to create an original look. Or this Stefani top by Kiyonna with the cut out by the shoulder and ruffle around the bust to create volume at the top and draw the eye upwards. Amazing use of fashion architecture in this top!

Outfit of the Day (OOTD): Playing with Animal Prints
By Micaela Shambee
So, I've always hated animal prints. My Mom always tells me hate is a strong word, but seriously, I just could not get with it. Case in point: My mother loves it. She wears it from head to toe. If it's animal print, (especially cheetah print) she'll buy it, whether its flattering or not. She buys big hats, jeans, and over-sized t-shirts; no matter what, if its in her closet and it has that big cat splattered over it, it's most likely an animal print!
To make matters worse, I feel like every plus size clothing company uses animal prints specifically for bigger women. It's like all the designers huddle together and decide, "Okay she's big, let's wrap her in a toga full of cheetah print!" Or, "okay, she's big and she wants to be stylish, let's give her a cheetah print clutch to go with that toga!" I started to feel like animal prints were the scapegoat for designers when they designed for big women! Thus, at a young age, I developed animal print-phobia! A phobia that carried all the way into my adult life.
Well, until now.
I don't know if its because I recently turned 25, or what, but I was shopping and I came across this amazing off the shoulder shirt with silver cheetah print etched across it. I thought, "Hmmm. This might look good with my leggings." So, I bought it and surely enough, it looked great. Then another day, I found the most amazing cheetah print pumps. And after playing around with the combination of the shoes and the shirt, I knew my animal print phobia was cured! Well, not completely cured because I still won't wear it from head to toe like my Mom, but I've learned that small strategic splashes of the print is totally okay! I just hope that now designers will take the "less is more" approach when applying the print to clothing in the future.
Now pass me that cheetah clutch, but I'll pass on the toga!
Here's my playful experiment with animal prints:

Classic Pieces Complete a Wardrobe
By Amanda Hudgins
There are women throughout history who are known for their personal style still today. Trends often come and go, but there are some classic pieces that are always in. It is always important to have a few of these classic pieces in every girl’s wardrobe. These pieces will be able to carry you throughout your fashionista life, without going out of style. To start, a great first piece is the LBD or the Little Black Dress. You can even get creative with the cut and fit of the dress, but having one perfect little black dress in your closet will give you a timeless look.

The other great thing about classic pieces is you can always add trendier pieces with the more classic ones. This can add flair and your own personal style to any outfit. The second piece you should have is a great pencil skirt. They have different colors and fabrics to choose from and high waists are flattering on anybody. A definite essential is a perfect pair of jeans. This can sometimes be tricky for plus size women, because there are a lot of different cuts and shapes with jeans. The best option is to make sure you try them on. Look that the rise fits you well and the waist does not cut you in a weird place. Usually stores carry multiple cuts for you to choose from. Do not be afraid to go up a size if the jean is a little tight. Other pieces you can buy are great cardigans in multiple colors. If you can find them in different fabrics and weights, they can take you through all the seasons. Cardigans are great for layering and work for day or evening. Fun colors like blues and reds take a simple cardigan to another level.

Depending on what your career is, a pant or skirt suit is another great piece that you can have in your wardrobe. This will actually give you a chance to mix up the pieces and be able to create multiple outfits. There are plenty of great retail options where you can pick up some great classic pieces. These options are worth spending a little extra money on. Make sure the price is worth the quality and let these classic pieces help you create your own personal style.

Outfit of The Day (OOTD): eShakti Review
By Sarah Russell
I love eShakti's designs. There are SO MANY that just scream, "OMG SARAH YOUR FAT WOULD LOOK SO GOOD UP IN THAT," that I have to avoid the website because I get shopping angst, which is incredibly unpleasant. It feels a bit like a high school crush, mixed with a lot of that-boy-doesn't-like-you-back feelings, the whole "I LOVE YOU SO MUCH WHY CAN'T YOU JUST BE MINE?" teenage television drama attitude. But for clothes. Moving on. So I had originally chosen a sundress to review because I was thinking,
OMG YAY, IT'S, LIKE, GONNA BE SUMMER SOON!
But then the real part of me said,
OMG LOOK AT THAT BLACK DRESS. YOU LOVE BLACK. AND IT'S BLACK. WITH GOLD.
And clearly, the dark side won.
Anyway, back to the point, I got the Tulle Drape front jersey dress, but I had mine altered to have a V-neck because of my boobs. And I can't stop wearing it. It's up there with my ASOS shoulderpad dress. The two of them are going to be worn until they are threadbare. It fits my body perfectly, the jersey is heavy but not too heavy and it feels good to wear. I chose not to use my measurements, mostly because I feel like I always measure myself wrong, but their size chart is true to size. You can get clothes from eShakti up to a size 26. eShakti was pretty quick making it, I think I got it in about 1 1/2 weeks.
So I went out to Starbucks the other day (of all places for a photoshoot) and shot some pics and here is me, rocking this dress.
Oh, and the BEST part about this dress? Boutique Larrieux is featuring the dress. Yup, so you can get your lovely tulle drap dress right here, already made and already plus sized! It doesn't get more fabulous than that...oh wait, yes it does, check out this hot pics:
Dress: eShakti
Headband: France Luxe - Classic Gold Studs
Belt: NY & Co
Gladiator Sandals: Target
Pink Lipstick: Hard Candy (loves it!)

Summer Short Trends Every Curvy Girl Should Try
By Alissa Wilson
Who wears short shorts? Curvy girls do! This summer shorts are back in a big way and in a variety of styles. Long gone are the days of the ill fitted granny shorts or unflattering bermudas. This season, shorts are chic, sexy, and cool. Since this week is the first week of summer, which basically means heatwave season and can't keep a curl in my hair season, what better way to stay fashionably cool than to get in on the shorts trend.
I know what you're thinking, "I can't wear shorts", "I don't have the legs for them". So many curvy girls dismiss shorts because they think it will not flatter their bodies. Well, I am here to tell you that curvy girls can rock shorts and look great in them too. All you have to do is find the right cut and style for your body type. Challenge yourself and your style this summer and embrace your curves by donning a pair of cute summer shorts.
I have picked out five different styles of shorts that are guaranteed to flatter a variety of shapes.
Tie Waist Shorts
Dorothy Perkins Tie waist shorts are a great way to create or show off a waist. Be sure to pair these shorts with a woven straw hat and super cute wedges.
Culottes
Torrid I like to call these the forgiving shorts because they are loose in all the right places. This style looks great with a blazer or cropped jacket, a fitted tee, and gladiator sandals.
Denim Cutoff Shorts
Faith 21 You've seen stars like Beyonce and Rihanna bringing this old school style back. Denim cuffed shorts are the perfect pair of shorts to wear on those hot summer days when you're trying to stay school. Pair this style with a slouchy, slightly oversized tee, and flat floral embellished sandals for a cute relaxed look.
Satin Shorts
City Chic Satin shorts are the girls night out shorts. This style is a great option if you want to wear shorts for evening. Throw on a sequin top, sexy heels and you will be ready to party all night long like Lionel Richie.

Color Can be a Fatshionista's Best Friend
By Amanda Hudgins
This season, there is a great opportunity to step out of your Fatshionista comfort zone. Plus Size designers have taken more notice and stepped up to the challenge of offering fun and vibrant colors and prints in their clothing. Not saying that great classic colors like black, grey, and white should be done away with. However, adding a pop of color to any wardrobe can spice up your closet. You can find great pieces in separates, a dress, or accessories that can make your wardrobe fun and flirty.
So many colorful options can be extremely flattering. The use of color can accentuate your curves and even improve your mood. Research has shown that different colors can improve your mood and actually make you feel happier. So if you are having a blue day, maybe a brightly colored top might help you feel more lightened. This high-waisted skirt option by Jibri, an amazing plus size designer can be purchased at Boutique Larrieux and the colors stand out and make a statement. It offers a few beautiful colors in red and blue along with a bold print!
Or if you are not ready for that bold of a statement, you can reach for something a little more subtle, like this stretch belt from Torrid.

Another great trend right now is Rompers. These are great for summer since it is starting to warm up and our shoulders cannot wait to see the sun. There are some affordable options for every Fatshionista on a budget. This one from Pure Energy from Target is cute and a beautiful blue.

Whether you are looking for a bold statement piece or just something extra to give an outfit, color is a great place to start. This season there are a lot of colorful options in blue, coral, green, reds, pinks, and so many more. Do not be shy about color! Color can express your personality or just your mood for the day. Make it fun and enjoy yourselves this summer!

How to Choose a Fierce Swimsuit for Summer!
By Micaela Shambee
Summer is almost here and it's that time to purchase a new bathing suit. Now, I know getting a bathing suit can be a daunting task, (I mean, it's the most you'll be naked in public all year!) but choosing a fierce swimsuit that you can be comfortable and confident in is easier than you think! Remember when swimsuits were matronly with a poor fit and were usually just black (or had a weird print on it that resembled a grandma's couch)? Or how about just tossing an oversized t-shirt over some swimsuit you knew was an ill-fitting mess? Oh, how times have changed! Now, we have a host of options to choose from, like halter styles, tankinis, and one pieces that are ripe for the picking from fashion forward plus designers. So how do we choose the fiercest swimsuit for our bodies out of a sea of fresh fashionable merchandise? It's simple, just check out these tips that will help you choose a style that will make you hotter than Summer itself!
1. First, confidence is key! You have to know that your body is unique and that is why it is beautiful! Have confidence in the body you have right now. Being self-conscious will only keep you inside all summer and prevent you from enjoying life. (Also not to mention, you'll be sweating bullets all summer!)

You want to be smiling all summer, like me!
2. Second, know your body measurements! Fit is important for two reasons. First, all bodies are not created equal. I may be shaped like an apple, and you may be shaped like a pear, but swim suits don't know that (they can't think for you)! You have to find out your measurements to get a suit tailored for your body type. Second, if your shopping online, some stores do not accept returns on undergarments/swimsuits, meaning that if buy an ill-fitting suit, you're stuck with it! Grab some measuring tape and measure around your bust, waist and hips for best results!
3. Third, stop worrying about looking slimmer! News flash! Your plus size! That doesn't mean you bee-line for the first black swimsuit you see. Explore color and patterns and you'll be surprised what it does for your fabulous figure and your confidence! Bright colors can instantly lift your mood and make you look like a million bucks. Case in point. Last year I bought a black swim suit, a brown swim suit and a turquoise swimsuit and wore all three. The difference: I got a million compliments in the turquoise swimsuit.
"St. Tropez" Fringe Swimsuit
4. Lastly, play with exciting details! The true key to being fierce is choosing a swimsuit with great details like fringe, ruffles, belts and skirts. They all add that extra flare and sexiness that scream, "look at me, look at me! I know I'm hot and you know it too!"

Espana One-Shoulder Ruffle Swimsuit
Both fabulous swimsuits by Monif C. are carried right here at Boutique Larrieux.
So get one and get out there and enjoy Summer!

Fatshion wherever you are!
By Sarah Russell
I've always been a fatshionista. Okay, that's a complete lie. I cringe at some of the things I used to wear. They just looked terrible. Pink knit halter tops and wide leg capris. Ugh. I feel a little nauseated just thinking about those outfits. And then there was the hair...okay, I digress. But I AM a fatshionista now...but it's not easy. And not for the typical reasons that we ALL deal with, lack of resources, lack of sizes, lack of quality etc. But for the simple fact that I live here:

Beautiful, isn't it? And I love it. I love that this is the view from my balcony and that I am sitting here on my laptop listening to my wind chime with a perfect cool breeze And I have a garden in my backyard. And it's quiet. So I wouldn't change where I live for the world, because there is just something about it here. But along with this beautiful scenery comes a LACK of other things. For example:
- - I live 25 minutes from the nearest shopping center
- - The only stores that cater to plus-sizes anywhere near me are Lane Bryant, Wal-Mart, & Target
- - The nearest REAL mall is an hour away in either direction
- - The stores that are close to me don't carry the same selection as stores in a city would
- - My best friend and I are probably the ONLY FATshionistas for MILES.
So, I have to overcome A LOT for my fashion - which is probably why it is so crazily eclectic. I don't KNOW what is "in-style." I have no clue what the newest trends are until after everyone else has jumped on the wagon and then suddenly I realize, "OMG COOL - JUMPSUITS ARE IN!" Did you know I have never actually set foot in a Torrid or ASOS? Do I own their clothes? YES ! (Thank you Mr. Internet!) I shop a LOT at Goodwill and Salvation Army - thrifting is a beautiful thing. I think I used to feel insecure when I first read plus-size fashion blogs, how could I possibly be fashionable way out here? Staring at the mountains everyday and shopping on eBay likes it's my job. Wearing 1950s -1970s vintage secretary dresses, shirking designers and stores.
But I realized: You can be a fatshionista anywhere.
You can rock plus-size fashion no matter where you are. Most of the bloggers I know live in real cities: Boston, NY, Chicago, London...and here I am, in the middle of nowhere, but I still rock it - I work with what I have and I exercise a TON of creativity. And you don't have to follow trends or styles or any of it to be knowledgeable, fashionable, and into fashion - as long as you have the passion and the creativity. And, of course, if you are up for a challenge.

"I am proud of the way I look and I believe that everyone should be. I believe all women have something beautiful about them to show off no matter their size! I love fashion and think of myself as a blank canvas where I can use clothes and accessories to create whatever I feel. Fashion means that one day I can be a 1940’s pinup and the next I can be a modern fashionista. As Boutique Larrieux's Next Beauty I would hope to inspire women to have the self confidence to use there wardrobe to express who they are and not use it to cover their 'flaws'. I would be proud to inspire women to feel perfect the way they are and that no one can tell them what they should wear. I would love to represent a boutique that offered women clothing they would be proud to wear. I think these traits would make me a great role model for women of all sizes."
